"Zima" 2023, Mixed media, 8.5" x 12"

This piece was done with the intent of experimenting with a new material - Gouache. Though it is mixed media and includes other materials such as inks, watercolours and pencil crayons, the gouache was the main focus. As well as practicing with a new material, I also used this opportunity to perfect my illustrative style, and focus on texture.

I love this piece so much, and it is definitely in my top five favourite artworks. It didn't take me too long, roughly a day and a half. I like the way both the girl and the dragon's (Zima's) expressions tell a story. You can tell from the determined look in their eyes that they are confident in whatever battle they're facing, and that they feel stronger as a team.
